Medeama SC midfielder Rashid Nortey has advocated for higher wages for Ghana Premier League players.

The league is arguably one of the lowest-paying leagues in Africa, forcing the best players to leave Ghana for better opportunities elsewhere in Africa.

According to Nortey, a minimum salary of fifteen thousand cedis will help in retaining the quality players in the domestic top-flight.

“Players in the local scene struggles a lot because of meager salaries. You will be surprised to hear some awful salaries some of my colleagues take monthly”

“Local players deserve better, so I suggest players be paid at least GHC15,000” he told Angel TV.

The 24-year-old who joined the Yellow and Mauves in 2017 has been outstanding since joining the club.

He currently has less than seven months left on his existing contract with the former MTN FA Cup champions.
