Lionel Messi scored in the 77th minute as Barcelona beat Granada to give Quique Setien a win in his first match in charge at Camp Nou.

Hosts Barcelona dominated possession throughout Sunday's match, the first for Setien since taking over for Ernesto Valverde last week.

The 61-year-old faced a potentially tricky challenge from a solid Granada side, while missing suspended Frenkie de Jong and injured duo Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele .

But the former Real Betis boss enjoyed a dream start to his Blaugrana tenure thanks to Messi's sublime goal off a back-heel pass from Arturo Vidal.

Granada were able to withstand Barca's potent attack and numerous chances for the the majority of the match, but began to crack once defender German Sanchez was sent off in the 69th minute after being shown a second yellow card for a foul on Messi.

The win puts Barcelona ahead of Real Madrid in the table thanks to goal difference, with both sides level on 43 points.
