Michael Essien and Mahamoudi Diarra earns plaudit for great exploits in French Ligue 1

Ghana legend Michael Essien and Mahamoudi Diarra has been hailed for their outstanding performance in the French Ligue during their playing days.

The official handle of the Ligue took to social media to celebrate Diarra on his birthday and shared a picture of the Malian and the ex-Ghana star.

“This duo was something else” a tweet sighted on the Frecnh Ligue 1 handle.

The former Black Stars midfielder spent almost five-years in France, featuring for Bastia and Olympic Lyon before departing to England.

After explosive display in the French top-flight, the 40-year-old secured a move to English side Chelsea in 2005.

Both Essien and Diarra shared the dressing room together between 2003 to 2005 during their stint with Lyon and had a brilliant partnership in midfield.

Essien won the Ligue 1 twice with Lyon before he departed to join Chelsea whiles Diarra won it on four occasion due to his long stint with Lyon.

The former Liberty Professionals player had spells with Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan and other top clubs before retirement.

He is currently a technical team member of Danish club FC Nordjaelland.
