MMA Betting Tips You Did Not Know About
MMA is one of the sports you can bet on

MMA is one of the greatest things that happened in the world of sports. With MMA, we can see a lot of action from different fighting styles. Over the years, MMA has become a staple of sports, and this gave rise to MMA betting.

How should you bet? What are the tips and tricks to improve your winning odds? Today, we will show you how to bet and win the right way, instead of betting on a fighter because of your own biases.

Know the Fighters

Although MMA fighters have a combination of various fighting skills, you cannot deny that each one has a specialization or a strong suit. For those who specialize in jiujitsu and similar fighting styles, you know that the way they can win is through knocking out the opponent.

You also have to consider the fighter’s defence abilities. Some fighters have poor defence abilities against a grappler, and they are likely to lose. No matter how you love a jiujitsu expert, understand that he will lose to a grappler with a strong chin if he does not know how to defend himself.

Choose a Fighter Who is Likely to Win

In any combat sport, you are more likely to bring home the bacon when the fighter you choose has better chances. What does this mean? Here are some tips:

  • Choose fighters who fight regularly – they have better ring experiences.
  • Choose fighters who won already – they are more motivated and confident to win.

This strategy also indicates that should you ever bet on an underdog, you should study how that underdog matches up against the opponent. Underdog bets have more winnings, and we are sometimes inclined to bet on them.

If you bet on an underdog, try not to bet on someone who had two successive losses. Also, you have to bet on fighters who had enough time to heal from their previous fight. Fighters who get in the ring three times a year have significant wear and tear.

Understand the Different Betting Rules

Betting on MMA, like the UFC, is not always as straightforward as it seems. There are different betting types, and each betting type has a different prize.

  • Moneyline – this is the simplest form of a bet. Here, you are betting on the winner based on the final result of the fight. You are wagering that the player you selected is going to win, no matter how the win was achieved.
  • Round Bets – this bet is also sometimes called over and under bet. In this kind of betting, you are guessing how many rounds it would take for the fight to last before a winner is declared. An example of this type of bet looks like this: Fighter 1 vs Fighter 2 | 2.5 Rounds.

Let us take the “under” for an example. If you wagered under, you are saying that the fight is over in under 2.5 rounds. Specifically, the fight is over 2.5 minutes of the second round. The number 2 means second round, and the 0.5 means the first half of the second round (each MMA round is 5 minutes).

If you decided to bet on over, you would win if the fight ended after that mark. Which means the fight ended AFTER the first half of the second round.

  • Method – the last betting style is about the method of victory. Here, you are betting if the end of the fight is based on a knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO). You can also bet on the decision or if the fight would end on submission.

On some occasions, this bet does not take into consideration who wins. You are only betting on the results. If you wagered in KO, and the fight ended with KO, you still win regardless of who among the two fighters won.

Summary

Betting on MMA is exciting. You will never really know who wins, most especially so if the event is a championship. The players who participate are all great in their own rights. To succeed in MMA betting, you have to study the players. Avoid betting just because one player is your idol.

Too many times, people bet on MMA only if the fighter in the ring is their favourite. This strategy is bad if you do not even take a look at the history of the opponent. In any kind of sports betting, especially MMA, you must spend some time studying the statistics of players. There are many websites out there that can give you data—read them to find out who is more likely to win.
