Monaco Starlet Kylian Mbappe Reveals Why He Turned Down Real Madrid Over the Summer

Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he turned down approaches from Real Madrid over the summer, saying that he wants to stay in his home country for the time being.


However, the 17-year-old did hint that a move may not be too far off - admittingthat the prospect of becoming the world's most expensive teenager was one which appealed to him after fellow Monaco alum Anthony Martial's £58m move to Manchester United.

The exciting forward admitted to Telefoot (viaMailOnline Sport): "If I beat Anthony Martial's transfer fee I would be happy. It would be nice, but it's not something that gets me going every morning.To go down in history you have to win titles as well. So I want to win titles with Monaco.


He conceded that the interest from France legend Zinedine Zidane was incredibly flattering, saying: "I'm just a kid and then, the best footballer of the history of France (Zinedine Zidane) is talking to you."

Mbappe - who has scored three goals in Monaco's unlikely attacking charge in Ligue 1 this season, added: "He was really touching and sincere with me. It was a great moment but in the end it (the transfer) didn't happen.I wanted to stay in my country. I stayed in Monaco and I think I've made the right choice."


Leonardo Jardim's side currently sit second in the French league ahead of last season's runaway champions Paris Saint-Germain, having scored an incredible 54 goals in just 18 games - 20 more than any other team in the division.
