Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has revealed he knew about Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus before the World Cup.

The Portuguese striker joined the Old Lady in a €100 million deal from Real Madrid, and the Spaniard admits he didn’t believe the news at first.

“I though he was going to renew his contract,” Morata told El Larguero. “Then I talked to a Juventus director and they told me they were going to sign him.

“I couldn’t believe it. They told me that before the World Cup! Regardless, he left Real Madrid for another spectacular club.

“I don’t think he left Real because he wasn’t getting along with his teammates or that he wasn’t enjoying the atmosphere. He had his reasons.”

Although Ronaldo and Juventus are now seen as favourites to win the champions League, Morata believes it isn’t solely down to the signing of the striker.

“They aren’t the favourites just because of Cristiano,” he added. “They’ve come very close over the past few years.

“Tactically, Juve are one of the best teams and when Cristiano begins to score…

“Every year the same thing is said but he ends up with 50.”

Juventus begin their Champions League campaign away to Valencia on September 19.
