Morata seals Atleti loan move

Spain striker Alvaro Morata has completed his loan move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, signing a deal running until the end of next season.

The 26-year-old Spain international joined the Blues in the summer of 2017 from Real Madrid, but struggled to make his mark in English football, scoring 24 goals in 72 appearances in all competitions for the Londoners.

He recently fell out of favour with Blues head coach Maurizio Sarri, who preferred to field Eden Hazard in a lone attacking role, while the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus marked a definite end for Morata.

Sarri recently admitted that Morata had made his mind up that he wanted to move on from Stamford Bridge, with the Italian saying: "He has the characteristics to play in my team, but one month ago he said he wanted to play for another team.

"It was very difficult for him to give us 100 per cent because of his mental situation. He is very suitable for my football, but the situation changed in the last month."

Morata started his football journey in the youth ranks at Atleti, but made his senior breakthrough with city rivals Real, for whom he netted 11 goals in 52 appearances, helping Los Blancos to two La Liga titles and two Champions League successes.

He also spent two seasons with Juventus, where he scored 27 times in 93 outings, helping the Bianconeri to back-to-back domestic doubles and scoring in the Champions League final of 2015, which Juve lost 3-1 to Barcelona.

Atletico are currently second in La Liga and are 10/1 to be crowned champions, with Barcelona priced at 1/10 and Real Madrid 16/1.
