Morris eyes Lampard stay

Published on: 17 June 2019

Derby County chairman Mel Morris says the club are determined to keep hold of manager Frank Lampard ahead of next season.

Lampard guided the Rams to the Championship playoff finals, only to narrowly fall short of promotion with defeat at the hands of Aston Villa at Wembley.

Following the departure of Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, the Blues have been linked with brining their iconic midfielder Lampard back to Stamford Bridge.

Morris is adamant there has been no approach so far and says the club are eager to see Lampard stay and build on his positive first season at Pride Park.

"We have made it very clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank, that we want to retain Frank for the long term," said Morris.

"If Chelsea want to hire Frank, then it is in their gift to make an offer in pursuit of that.

"In the meantime, we will continue to put our best foot forward to continue with our plans for the coming season and work with Frank for him to know how much he is wanted by everyone associated with the club."

Derby are 16/1 to win the Championship title next season.
