Mourinho issues United pledge

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he would like to stay at Manchester United beyond his current contract after playing down talk of a return to Real Madrid.

The Red Devils' chief is a surprise name in the frame to replace current Los Blancos' coach Julen Lopetegui who is under intense pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu despite only being installed as Zinedine Zidane's successor in the summer.

I am happy to see out my contract to the very last day of that contract and I would like to stay after my contract runs out as well.

The reigning Champions League winners have lost four in their last five games and it is being reported that the former Spain coach is facing the axe.

Mourinho, who won the Spanish title and Copa del Rey in his time in charge at Real between 2010 and 2013, is believed to be one of the top targets to take over.

However, when asked about the possibility of leaving United, Mourinho, who is contracted to the club until summer 2020, said: "I am happy here.

"All I am thinking about at the moment is Manchester United."

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's Champions League showdown against Juventus at Old Trafford, Mourinho added: "I am happy to see out my contract to the very last day of that contract and I would like to stay after my contract runs out as well."

United are 21/10 to defeat Juve on Tuesday, while the Italian outfit are priced at 6/4 and the draw is 23/10.
