Mustafi escapes serious injury

Arsenal boss Unai Emery does not think the injury Shkodran Mustafi suffered in Sunday's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City is serious.

The 26-year-old German had to be substituted in the 79th minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Emery has a host of injury problems to contend with and is particularly short of options in defence.

Although Laurent Koscielny was able to play against Pep Guardiola's team, Sokratis Papastathopoulos remains sidelined with an ankle injury while Rob Holding will not play again this season.

"I think he's okay," Emery said of Mustafi. "He's been having problems all this week and last week. Dinos Mavrapanos is training with us also and was able to play for 20 minutes on Sunday and help us."

Arsenal visit rock-bottom Huddersfield Town for their next Premier League match before taking on BATE Borisov in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash.

Emery is hopeful Mustafi will be available for those games, adding: "I think last week he had some problems in his head and on Sunday, when in the last 20 minutes he also had some problems, I decided to give Mavropanos 20 minutes. I hope it is not a problem with Mustafi for this week and the next match."

Arsenal have slipped to sixth in the Premier League table as Manchester United leapfrogged them thanks to their 1-0 win at Leicester City on Sunday.

The Gunners are 3/1 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season and 6/1 to win the Europa League.
