Nainggolan welcomes Inter switch

Published on: 26 June 2018

Midfielder Radja Nainggolan is relishing a new challenge after making a surprise move from Roma to join Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

The 30-year-old, who recently announced his retirement from international football after missing out on a place in the Belgium squad for the world Cup 2018 finals, has signed a four-year contract at the San Siro.

Nainggolan spent more than four years in the Italian capital, having previously played for Cagliari and Piacenza, but says he has now opted to try and help Inter restore their reputation as a leading European power.

He told his new club's official website: "We can do well in the league and also in the Champions League. Inter have an important history behind them and they must now return to playing their part in Europe."

Inter finished in fourth place in Serie A last season, meaning they will play in the group stage of the Champions League next term and they have also signed Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij from Lazio to bolster their squad.

Meanwhile, as part of the deal to sign Nainggolan, Inter have allowed both Nicolo Zaniolo and Davide Santon to move in the opposite direction.

Teenage midfielder Zaniolo had to feature for the Nerazzurri first team, while former Italy defender Santon had fallen down the pecking order with Inter in recent times.

Roma ended one place better off than Inter last season and will also play in the Champions League during the 2018/19 campaign.

Roma are priced at 6/1 to win Lo Scudetto next season, while Inter are available at 10/1 and Napoli are 7/2.
