After an abrupt end to the 2019/20 French Ligue 1 season as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, French-born defender of Ghanaian descent Dennis Appiah has revealed his desire to see the new season started.

The 28-year-old was instrumental for the French Ligue 1 outfit during the truncated season 2019/20 season, making a total of 22 appearances in all competitions.

Appiah returned to action with Nantes as they defeated Girondins de Bordeaux 4-3 in the Round of 16 of the French Cup.

"The first day of Ligue 1 is coming very quickly and it's up to us to get closer to the aggressiveness that will be put in competition to be there," he said.

"This pre-season is long and that's not necessarily what we like the most (he smiles). Everyone wants to get a foothold in the competition and I hope we will have the opportunity to start with a success to start well."

FC Nantes will face Girondins de Bordeaux at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux in their league opener on August 23.
