Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri unimpressed by their preseason form

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri has been left frustrated by their preseason form.

Napoli lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid by conceding twice late on and defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 in the Audi Cup.

“We used three goalkeepers in the two games and they all had good performances," said Sarri.

“Luigi Sepe had to do a little more, but I liked the confidence shown by both today. Towards the end we tried out a 4-4-1-1 system with Arek Milik behind Leonardo Pavoletti, as we didn't have another winger and needed greater physicality up front.

“Perhaps our performance against Atletico Madrid yesterday was better, but today we had fewer distractions. The team wanted the result and responded to what I asked for, but also had less energy in their legs. That's understandable.

“Unfortunately we had two games that we probably useful for our opponents, but not for us, because we played in absurd temperatures. That meant we didn't get to play at a high tempo, which is what I wanted ahead of the Champions League preliminary round.

“We need to find match fitness and the right tempo, and those aren't so easy. For example, against Bournemouth this weekend we could have huge problems."
