Henk ten Cate has been touted as one of the top candidates to replace Frank de Boer as Netherlands coach, but the 66-year-old has said he does not want the job.

Ten Cate was reportedly the most popular option among the Netherlands players before De Boer replaced Ronald Koeman and reports have been linking him to the job once again.

"I'm not available," he has told De Telegraaf. "[KNVB director] Nico-Jan Hoogma can certainly call me sometime. Not for the position of national coach, but to finally apologise on behalf of the KNVB for the character assassination that the football association tried on me in 2017."

The coach is referring to the time he was lined up as a replacement for Danny Blind, but the KNVB gave the job to Dick Advocaat, then dismissed him as a liar.
