NC SPECIAL: AshGold 0-1 Karela FC – Diawisie Taylor’s late strike sinks Miners at Len Clay

In-form striker Diawesie Taylor struck late to secure a sweet 1-0 victory over AshGold at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi to secure qualification to the finals of the NC Special Competition Tier One.

The late strike from the dangerous attacker condemned the Miners to their first defeat at home in the competition.

AshGold started very well by taking the game to the visitors.

Shafiu Mumuni tested Isaac Hagan with a long range shot but Hagan produced a good save to deny him.

It took sometime before Karela United settled in the game.

Diawisie Taylor came close in the 21st minute but his header went off the bar.

Karela United took control of the game by dictating the pace of the game but Frank Boateng produced a marvelous save to deny Taylor again after tapping in from close range.

Appiah McCarthy had the last chance of the first half, after being put through on goal by Emmanuel Owusu, but his low cross went wide.

Ashanti Gold made a double substitution in the 54th minute introducing Richard Djodi and Joseph Gordon for Amos Nkrumah and Appiah McCarthy respectively.

Djodi quickly made his first impact in the game by setting up Shafiu Mumuni, but Mumuni’s effort was saved by Hagan.

Richard Djodi comes close again, but his powerful shot from afar was stopped by Hagan.

Karela United also came close in the 85th minute, but Sarfo Taylor’s strike went wide.

No goal was scored in the 90th minute as referee signalled 4 minutes of additional time.

Diawisie Taylor miraculously grabbed the winner for the visitors with a swashbuckling strike in the 94th minute to break the heart of the home fans to sent his team to the final of the competition.
