New clubs breaking dominance of Hearts of Oak and Kotoko healthy for Ghana football - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has praised the evolving dynamics of the Ghana Premier League, emphasizing the positive impact of new teams like FC Samartex 1996 winning the title.

He highlighted this sentiment during a visit by the 2023/2024 champions, who clinched the league in only their second season in the top flight.

FC Samartex’s triumph not only secures them a spot in the CAF Champions League but also sets them up for a first-round clash with Cameroon’s Victoria United.

President Akufo-Addo reflected on the rise of clubs such as Samartex and Medeama SC, who won the 2022-2023 league, acknowledging the refreshing shift from the dominance of traditional powerhouses like Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

“We were all very excited watching your rise and emergence this season. It’s good to see diversity in Ghana football, moving away from the old norms we grew up with.

“Medeama last year, you [Sanartex] this year—it’s very healthy for Ghana football and a sign of vitality and revitalization that we should all strive to sustain,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
