Brands Manager and Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko has opened up on why the club strengthened the squad of the team in the January transfer window.

According to him, it was all part of a plan to ensure the club retains the Ghana Premier League title.

Speaking in an interview, David Obeng Nyarko said with new signings Mohammed Alhassan, Rashid Nortey and Matthaeus Medeiros de Souza, Asante Kotoko will finish the ongoing season as champions of the local league.

"Obviously, our target is to finish on top of the table at the end of the season. We have strengthened the defense, midfield and attack with the acquisition of Mohammed Alhassan, Rashid Nortey and Matthaeus Medeiros de Souza,” the communications director of Asante Kotoko said.

He added, “We believe those players will help us improve on our shortfalls in the second round of the league. Again, injured players in our team like Isaac Oppong, Dickson Afoakwa and others are nearing recovery. So we are hoping to get a much-improved squad in the second so we can score more goals and concede less."

In the coming weekend, Asante Kotoko will take on Nsoatreman FC in a Week 18 encounter of the Ghanaian top-flight league campaign.
