Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is targeting a summer move for Hull's £12m rated centre-back Harry Maguire, according tothe Sun.

The Spanish coach is reportedly keen to bring in a commanding presence in defence should the Magpies secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Maguire would likely be interested in a move to Newcastle should they attempt to do a deal, particularly if Hull were to be relegated.

A number of Premier League clubs are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old, but Benitez has made his signature a priority and is prepared to spend a substantial sum on strengthening his back four.

Maguire is reportedly keen to get improved terms on his current deal with Hull and could look to move if he receives the right offer. The former Sheffield United centre-back has established himself as a first team regular this season, and has impressed since the arrival of new manager Marco Silva.

Hull are likely to demand a fee of around £12m should they allow the imposing centre-back to leave the club.

Maguire has had a contract extension triggered in his Hull contract, extending his current deal until the end of next season.

With reported interest from West Ham and Middlesbrough, as well as Newcastle, Hull may face a tough task to prevent a transfer.
