Newcastle Forward Siem de Jong Returns to Eredivisie to Join PSV Eindhoven on Loan

Newcastle United forward Siem de Jong has brought his injury plagued spell at St James' Park to a temporary end after returning home to the Eredivisie to join PSV Eindhoven on loan for the duration of the 2016/17 season.


The 27-year-old former Ajax captain will be reunited with younger brother Luuk, also formerly of Newcastle, in Eindhoven as he looks to get his stalling career back on track.

As a result of countless fitness setbacks, including suffering a collapsed lung at one point, De Jong was cruelly limited to just 22 Premier League appearances in two seasons for the Magpies.He had initially arriving from the Netherlands will a big reputation having starred in Ajax's Dutch dominance.


The player only featured four times during his debut season in England, scoring his first and only Premier League goal against Swansea in April 2015.


De Jong has not featured for Newcastle in the Championship so far this season.

"I am fit and can actually train directly with the group," De Jong told PSV.nl.


"In the coming weeks I especially need to get into a rhythm. It's also very nice to come to a club playing in the UEFA Champions League and fight for the title. I am very happy that PSV has come to me, I am grateful to PSV."


De Jong won four Eredivisie titles with Ajax and previously starred in the Champions against Manchester City and Real Madrid before his move to Tyneside.
