When probed further by presenter Gary Lineker, Gerrard said: "Obviously theChelsea game. That's one that'll haunt me for a long time. [It was] the complete opposite to the feelings of the Champions League [win in Istanbul 2005]where you're on this incredible high and then when you go back to the Chelsea game, that being a pivotal moment.

"It felt like a disaster had happened in my life - that's how bad it was."

The iconic moment came just a weekafterthe skipper was caught on camera firing up his teammates after victory over Norwich, telling them'this does not f****** slip now'.The mishap set Chelsea on their way to a 2-0 victory that day, leaving the Reds' fate in the title race out of their hands.

The Reds, in great form at the time of the game, then capitulated against Crystal Palace after going 3-0 up to draw 3-3. The title eventually went to Manchester City, with many pointing to the slip as the turning point.

As reported by the Guardian last year, Gerrard, who was released by LA Galaxy at the end of most recent MLS season, admitted that he washaunted by the slip.

He said at the time: "There's not a day that doesn't go by that I don't think about what if that didn't happen. Would things have been different? Would it have turned out different? Maybe it might of, I don't know.

With the 36-year-old now out of the game, rumours will be rife about his next move, withLiverpool manager Jurgen Kloppadmitting the door remains open for a non-playing role at his former club.
