No Ghanaian player in CAF Player of the Year shortlist amid Black Stars’ struggles to reclaim glory

For the first time in many years, there is no Ghanaian player in the shortlist for the CAF Player of the Year award.

As has been done in past years, the continent’s football governing body is set to give awards to best players that have excelled in the past year.

On Thursday, CAF officially released the shortlist for the awards ceremony made up of several enviable categories.

For the main award which will be the men’s Player of the Year award, the top award is up for grabs and will be closely contested for by Senegalese hero Sadio Mane and Egypt’s poster boy Mohammed Salah.

Unfortunately for Ghana, no player has made it into the shortlist.

The disappointing omission of Ghanaian players is being attributed to the current poor performance of the Black Stars which was evident at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament staged in Cameroon.

The only thing that comes as compensation is the fact that talented youngster Kamaldeen Sulemana has been named in the Young Player of the Year shortlist.
