No local coach is fit to coach current Black Stars players - Ex-Deputy Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah

Former Deputy Sports Minister, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has kicked against the appointment of a local coach as the head coach of the Black Stars.

The national team is currently without a substantive head coach following Otto Addo's resignation.

The 47-year-old left his role following Ghana's early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Kwesi Appiah is the only local coach that has confirmed that he has applied for the vacant job.

However, Oppong Asamoah believes the current playing body of the team are foreign-based players who have different mentalities which will make it difficult for the coach to instruct them.

"No Ghanaian coach should coach the senior national team for now," he told Asempa FM.

"About 99% of our players are foreign-based. Their mindset is completely different.

"No local coach can coach such players. Even Annor Walker was not able to coach the Black Galaxies well," he added.

Meanwhile, Chris Hughton, who was part of the set up as the technical advisor according to reports is on the verge of been appointed as the new Black Stars trainer.
