No stadium in Ghana can host an African semifinal game - Dreams FC General Manager

Published on: 17 September 2023

Ameenu Shardow, General Manager of Dreams FC, has pointed out that none of the stadiums in Ghana would meet the criteria for hosting a semifinal game in the CAF Inter-club competition this season, should the two teams secure a spot.

Shardow's concerns arise amidst growing unease over the condition of the Accra Sports Stadium, which serves as Dreams FC's home venue in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The pitch has faced backlash due to insufficient maintenance efforts by the National Sports Authority, particularly following the Ghana vs Liberia international friendly on September 12.

In his capacity as both General Manager of Dreams FC and team manager for the Ghana national team, Shardow voiced reservations about the current state of various stadiums in Ghana, which include the Accra Sports Stadium, Cape Coast Sports Stadium, and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

"Currently, there is no stadium in the country that will be able to host any CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup match as it stands now. We are all in the country, and we know what is going on,” he told Citi FM.

Dreams FC defeated Sierra Leonean counterparts  FC Kallon 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
