For tomorrow's MLS Expansion Draft, DC United revealed its protected player list, during which Austin FC will target the rosters of five existing teams in the league to stock up on players.
Up to 12 players were allowed to be protected by DC United, which already has 18 players under contract and are in contract negotiations for five more who could theoretically return in 2021. The following is their protected list:

- Steven Birnbaum
- Russell Canouse
- Edison Flores
- Julian Gressel
- Bill Hamid
- Ola Kamara
- Joseph Mora
- Junior Moreno
- Chris Odoi-Atsem
- Erik Sorga
Chris Odoi-Atsem, who established himself as first-choice over the final third of the season at right-back, has earned a bona fide bid from United, which makes this choice a good signal to protect him that he will ultimately sign a new agreement.
