Official: President Akufo-Addo lifts ban on contact sports

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has today, September 20, 2020 lifted ban on all sporting related activities.

Football and other sporting activities in the country was suspended since March due to the Coronavirus pandemic that wrecked the world.

The President in his State of the Nation address on measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic eased restrictions.

“With the respect to football, After due consultation with the Ghana Football Association, it is being decided that the Ghana Premier League and the Division One football league will restart on Friday, 30th October with the full resume of testing of the players, technical and management staff”

“No spectator will be allowed at the training centers and when competitions begins, sitting at all stadia’s will be limited to 25% capacity to ensure social distancing. Wearing of mask by spectators at the stadia will be mandatory”

“The restart of all other sporting competitions will be determined by case by case basis pending consultations between the ministry of youth and sports and the respective sports associations” he said.
