Former Netherlands international Arjen Robben has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

Robben, who played for Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and PSV, called time on his career after a final season with Dutch club Groningen, where his professional career began in 2000.

Robben won League titles in Holland, England, Spain and Germany, scored the winning goal for Bayern Munich in the 2013 Champions League final, and was capped 96 times by his country. 

"Dear football friends, I have decided to stop my active football career," Robben said. "A very difficult choice. I want to thank everyone for all the heart-warming support! Regards, Arjen."
