Okwahu United qualify for Division One League with an unbeaten record

Former Ghana Premier League campaigners, Okwahu United have made a return to the Division One League after emerging as champions of the Eastern Region Division II League.

The Asaase Aban outfit sealed promotion to the Ghana second-tier with an unbeaten record in the 2022/23 season.

Throughout the season, Okwahu United remained unbeaten, winning 20 and drawing 3 games in 23 games.

Before the Middle League, Okwahu United had recorded 15 wins and 3 draws in the 18 matches played in Zone 5 of the Division II.

The Ghanaian giants stepped in the middle league as they emerged as winners with a 100 percent record. They recorded five wins out of the 5 games they played to book qualification to the Division One League.

Prior to the Middle League final round of games, the Asaase Aban outfit had secured qualification to the Division One League after six-year absence.

The Nkawkaw-based club emerged runaway champions in the middle league after beating Blue Skies Pelicans 3-1 in their penultimate game last Wednesday.

On Sunday, the 2016 FA Cup finalists climax the middle league with a 1-0 win over Live Now Academy at the Kyebi Astro Turf. Okwahu United lift the trophy and pocked a cash prize of GHC5,000.

The leadership of the Eastern Regional Football Association were at Kyebi and presented the trophy, medals and the cash prize to the Okwahu United.

The Asaase Aban club were demoted to the third-tier in 2017, a year after reaching the finals of the FA Cup, where they lost the title to Bechem United.

Okwahu United were one of the giants of Ghana football in the 80’s and represented the country at continental levels. They made it to the second round of the CAF Cup winners cup in 1987 and were withdrew in the first round in 2001.

The club has produced several talents including the likes of Mohammed Gargo, Tony Yeboah, Fatau Dauda, C.K Akonnor and other top players.
