Otto Addo’s first game in charge of Black Stars ends in a draw against Nigeria

New Ghana head coach, Otto Addo saw the Black Stars play out a goalless drawn game against Nigeria on Friday night in his first game in charge of the national team.

The Borussia Dortmund assistant coach was appointed as interim head coach for the Black Stars following the sacking of Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac.

Although he is to only take charge of the playoff tie against Nigeria in the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament, sources say he is also in contention for the job on a long-term basis.

Today, Otto Addo took charge of his first game as Ghana coach when the team faced off with Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Prior to the game, the Black Stars were tagged as underdogs due to the team’s poor performance at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Fortunately, a display of competent tactics from the new gaffer saw Ghana play some fine football throughout the 90 minutes.

While the favourites Nigeria had their moments, Ghana finished the game as the better side, unluckily failing to score at the end of the contest.

In the end, a goalless draw now means that a slot for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will now be fought in the second leg.

Ghana must wrap up the short stay in Ghana in the next 24 hours and travel to Abuja, Nigeria where the reverse fixture will be played.

That game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
