Out-of-Favour Man Utd Forward Reportedly Eyeing PSG Switch Amid Falling Out With Jose Mourinho

Published on: 05 February 2017

Anthony Martial wants to end his Manchester United nightmare and join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, according to The Sun.

The paper claims that the forward has grown tired of being thrown under the proverbial bus by manager Jose Mourinho, and wants out of Old Trafford after a number of apparent run-ins with the Red Devils boss this term.

Martial is said to have become increasingly annoyed by the barbs continuously fired his way by Mourinho, and The Sun believes that the Portuguese's latest criticism - that of some of his stars lacking a "winning mentality" - was aimed at the 21-year-old in particular.

Whether such an accusation was aimed in the direction of Martial or others is up for debate, but the France international is reported to have had enough of life on the sidelines at the 20-time English top flight champions and harbours ambitions of returning to his homeland.

His unhappiness at United may see Martial attempt to push through a move to reigning Ligue 1 champions PSG, and The Sun believes that Mourinho would not stand in Martial's way if he opts to end his 18-month stay in England.

Martial has fallen behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order at Old Trafford and, despite starting 15 of the 22 matches that he has featured in throughout 2016/17, has bagged just six goals and completed 90 minutes on only five occasions under Mourinho.

His lack of game time is a far cry from the amount of minutes Martial accrued under predecessor Louis Van Gaal, as the world's most expensive teenager racked up 20 goals in 63 appearances during the last campaign.

Martial could see his chances of first-team football diminish further if United's reported pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann bears fruit, and the arrival of his compatriot may see the ex-Monaco starlet look elsewhere for regular minutes on the pitch.

United would likely want to recoup as much of the £58m transfer fee they splashed out to bring Martial to the North West of England in July 2015 and, backed by Qatari investors, PSG should be able to fork out whatever cash the Red Devils would be willing to settle for.
