Jose Mourinho received an offerto becomeArsenal manager, replacing Arsene Wenger, before taking the Manchester United job - according to Yahoo Sport.

The Special One spent six months out of the game after being sacked for the second time by Chelsea in November 2015, and in the time between that and his hiring at United, he had received multiple offers from differentclubs - one being fromthe Gunners according to the report.

Had the Red Devils inexplicably gone with someone else to replace Louis van Gaal, it couldhaven seen Mourinho to Arsenal asof the most controversial managerial moves in recent memory.

The Portuguese has taken several digs at Arsenal over the years and hashad countless spats with bitter rival Wenger, whom he infamously oncedescribed as "a specialist in failure".

Other clubs reported to have contacted Mourinho were Everton, Roma, his ex-clubs Inter Milan and Real Madrid, and the most likely foreign team, PSG.

France certainly would have been a change of scenery for the 54-year-old - he has never managed therebefore but already spokeFrench well and could've used the Eurostar to commute from London so as not to uproot his family.

Mourinho became eventually became United boss in May 2016, four days after the club sacked van Gaal after missing out on Champions League football.

It has been a decent first season of the Jose era so far, with club sitting just outside the top four with momentum very much behind them to the tune of a 16 match unbeaten league run. They are into the last-16 of the Europa League and have been labelled the favourites, are still in the FA Cupand have already won the EFL Cup.
