Pep Guardiola Not Planning to Strengthen City Squad in January Despite Huge Transfer War Chest

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not planning to sign anyplayers during the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

After a fantastic start to the season, City have lost against Tottenham and drawn with Everton in their last two Premier League games, cutting their lead at the top of the Premier League. City are level on points with Arsenal, but still in first position thanks to superiorgoal difference.

Guardiola brought a host of new faces to the Etihad during his first summer transfer window as City boss, with the likes of John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito all signing for the club, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach is not keen to add to his roster of players in January.

There had been talk of City signing a new centre-back after the difficulties faced in the Spurs and Everton matches, with Juventus' Leonardo Bonucci being linked, but Guardiola has reportedly told City'sdirector of football Txiki Begiristain he doesn't want any new transfer signings. Vincent Kompany has also returned to full fitness and therefore a new central defender may not be required.

City will welcome Gabriel Jesus to the club in January, having signed the Brazilian during the summer and then loaning the 19-year-old back to Sao Paolo on a six-month deal. Even though excluded midfielder Yaya Toure couldbe sold, there are no plans to bring in a replacement midfielder.

Some players from the Manuel Pellegrini era are still becoming accustomed to life under Guardiola, while new transfer signing will also have needed toacclimatise to their new surroundings, so it's no surprise to see City will not be making any signings in January.
