Phil Neville Says Liverpool Could Have Won the Title if They Had Signed Man City Reject

The title above does seem a bit dismissive, but it appears that Phil Neville has effectively ruled Liverpool out of the title race.

The Reds were flying high a few weeks ago, and were top of the pile for a bit, but a shocking loss against Bournemouth coupled with the weekend's draw with West Ham, has left them six points behind leaders Chelsea.

A lot of the blame is being shouldered by the Reds' new keeper Loris Karius, with the German being hit with criticism from all angles. Some of that stick came from a club legend in Jamie Carragher, while Gary Neville got in on it as well, prompting the keeper to hit back with a comment on the pundit's failed stint atValencia.

Phil, speaking on the BBC following Sunday's draw, had a go at Karius, and asked him to just shut up and play.

"When you're a young player and you're making mistakes and breaking into the team, you do your training, you do your practice, you work as hard as you can, you play on a Saturday and you say nothing to no-one," said the former defender.

"Start shooting your mouth off or having a go at pundits" when he has a couple of seasons under his belt.

"That's where I think he's made the biggest mistake," Neville continued. "Keep your mouth shut, do your job, go home, have your tea and play football."

Neville also toldSquawkathat Jurgen Klopp should have signed Joe Hart from Manchester City when he became available during the summer, and is of the opinion that his presence in goal would have given them a better chance at winning the title this season.

I look back at the start of the season when Joe Hart went to Torino and I thought, ˜If Liverpool sign Joe Hart then they probably have a fantastic chance of winning the Premier League'," he said.

"To win the Premier League you need a good goalkeeper, you need two good centre backs.

Unfortunately I don't think Liverpool have either. I don't want to criticise goalkeepers for making mistakes because everybody makes mistakes, but in terms of the quality I've seen already, I'm not so sure that the performances back up what I'm seeing on the pitch.
