Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has been a standout defender in the Premier League this season, and is attracting attention from all over as a result.
The Dutch centre-back's performances have been quite impressive, so rumours have obviously been swirling, with the January transfer window looming.
Manchester City are said to be among clubs ready to splash the cash for the player, and a figure of £50m has been mentioned. Pep Guardiola hasn't seen the likes of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi play to the expected standard thus far, and is thought to be keen on signing a new defender in the coming month.
Southampton have grown used to having their players snatched up, so much so, that they can afford to joke about it. They have remained in great cheer, despite their tough upcoming stream of matches, which includes fixtures against Spurs, West Brom and Tottenham; all in the space of just five days.
Jose Fonte, Van Dijk's defensive partner, posted pictures from the team's secret Santa in training on Saturday. And as you will see in the second photo, the Dutch defender is pictured wearing a City shirt.
Maybe they really expect him to leave, or ribbing him over the price tag, but what a way to do that.
