Players must work hard to earn Black Stars call up - Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum

Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum, has called on players competing in the Ghana Premier League to intensify their work ethics to earn a call-up to the Black Stars.

Narteh Ogum made this appeal after his side's defeat to Great Olympics in the Matchday 32 games of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Otto Addo in his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic saw only one local player, Frederick Asare making the 26-man squad.

Addressing the issue in an interview, Narteh Ogum said, “We have quality in the league, individual players are very good but it all depends on the coach who is making the call-ups.

"As coaches, we need to work harder and as players, they also need to work harder so that moving on more players will be called up to join the Black Stars," he added.

Ghana play Mali in Bamako on June 6 and CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on June 10. The Black Stars are attempting to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time.
