Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has added his voice to the Confederation of African Football's withdrawal of approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to be used for the Black Stars' home games.

The continental football governing body withdrew its approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following technical infractions, including unsuitable playing field.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been closed after Ghana's game against Angola, with the National Sports Authority ordered to fix all problems spotted by CAF.

Meanwhile, CAF has ordered the Ghana Football Association to select an alternative venue on the continent for their home games.

In response, the former Juventus and Fenerbahce star indicated that playing a qualifying game outside the country is a national embarrassment.

“Playing a qualifier outside Ghana, except in a tournament, is a national embarrassment. We must prioritize hosting our own games and protect our football pride” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Ghana will return action for the continuation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October 2024 after a disappointing performance against Angola and Niger.

With one defeat and a draw, the Black Stars finds themselves outside the top two teams in group F.

The four-time African champions will return to action in October and are set to battle it out with Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a doubleheader.

Sudan has been impressive under the former Black Stars, recording five wins and one defeat in seven games so far.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo and his charges will be aiming for a positive results when they take on Sudan next month.
