Playing our home games away affected - Kotoku Royals PRO, Okatakyie Afrifa

Communications Director of Kotoku Royals, Okatakyie Afrifa says not playing at the Oda Stadium is one of the major reasons behind their relegation to the Division One League.

The Royals are currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with 23 points. The debutants have picked up just six wins, five draws and 19 losses in 30 games.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Afrifa took a swipe at politicians for failing to honour their promise to revamp the Oda Stadium.

“I believe that the major problem is that a young club like Kotoku Royals that isn’t experienced and… we couldn’t also play at our home ground. Before we qualified for the Premier League, we played 15 Division One games at Akim Oda Sports Stadium, we won 14, and we drew one.

"When it comes to Oda Stadium, Kotoku Royals strength is there. We couldn’t even play one match at Oda and I believe that is the biggest disappointment that the people supporting Oda couldn’t even witness the league matches,” he said.

Kotoku Royals take on sixth-ranked Kumasi Asante Kotoko next on Sunday, May 21.

The Royals started the season by playing their home games at the Cape Coast Stadium before moving to the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu.
