After Steve Bruce spoke out about the vitriol he faced as Newcastle manager following his resignation from St James' Park this week, Pep Guardiola said he still loves being a football manager but ignores social media.

Bruce, who left his job by "mutual consent" two weeks after a Saudi-led takeover, said that the level of hate poured at him and his family made him want to quit.

Guardiola expressed sympathy and admiration for Bruce but advised him to ignore what was being said online in order to stay in the game.

"We get praise when we win, and we are incredibly criticized, sometimes more than the worst in society, because we don't win games," said the City boss.

Guardiola said Bruce should ignore the naysayers and focus on messages like the one sent by Newcastle striker Allan Saint-Maximin, adding that only those who knew Bruce personally could comment.
