Premier League Fantasy Football: Who's Hot and Who's Not in Matchweek 5

Published on: 15 September 2016

It's Friday, which means it's time to take a look at this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures ahead of making those fantasy football selections.

Here's the lowdown on which stars to transfer into, and out of, your side ahead of week five.

Goalkeepers

Who'sHot

Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea)- The Swansea shot stopper will always be a good option to pick up points for making multiple saves in matches and, valued at just £5m, is a solid choice ahead of the encounter against Southampton.

Ben Foster (West Brom)- Thanks to Tony Pulis' renowned defensive tactics, the West Brom keeper is often a shoe-in for those clean sheet points. Pick him up for a steal of a price at £4.7m this weekend.

Who's Not

Jordan Pickford (Sunderland) - The youngster conceded three goals at home to Everton on Monday, and faces the arduous task of keeping goal against Tottenham at White Hart Lane this weekend. Best to steer clear of choosing him for this one.

Fraser Forster (Southampton)- The towering Southampton man is yet to keep a clean sheet for the Saints this term, and could end up shipping at least once at home to Swansea this weekend.

Defenders

Who's Hot

Gareth McAuley (West Brom)- Like Ben Foster, McAuley is a solid bet to pick up clean sheet points. West Brom are away to West Ham on Saturday, but the Baggies are more than capable of shutting Slaven Bilic's men out. Good for a goal too.

Ashley Williams (Everton)- A summer recruit for Everton, the centre half has kept back-to-back clean sheets alongside Phil Jagielka against Stoke and Sunderland. With the visit to Goodison Park of Middlesbrough, Williams is a sound option to choose ahead of Saturday's match.

Who's Not

John Stones (Manchester City)- Manchester City are yet to stop a side from scoring against them in the Premier League this season and, despite a home encounter with Bournemouth this weekend, the Citizens look likely to ship at least once to Eddie Howe's men.

Bruno Martins-Indi (Stoke City)- The Dutch international had a nightmare debut as Stoke lost 4-0 to Tottenham last time out. With a tricky trip to Crystal Palace to come, it could be another pointless endeavour for the centre back.

Midfielders

Who's Hot

Etienne Capoue (Watford)- The Watford midfielder has bagged three goals and an assist so far this term to lead the midfield standings. Could pose Manchester United problems this weekend.

Leroy Fer (Swansea)- Like Capoue, Fer has been on fire with three goals in four matches for Swansea. Faces an away trip to Southampton, but could make it four in five due to the Saints' leaky defence.

Who's Not

Paul Pogba (Manchester United)- The world-record transfer holder has flattered to deceive since his move to Manchester United, and is yet to rack up a goal or an assist. Could struggle to break his duck against Watford this weekend.

N'Golo Kante (Chelsea)- Not a prolific goalscorer or assist maker, Kante banks on clean sheets to pick up the odd point here and there. For a Chelsea side yet to register a shut out this campaign, it could be a smart move to remove him from the starting eleven.

Strikers

Who's Hot

Odion Ighalo (Watford)- The Watford forward ended his goal drought last week, and added extra points to his tally with an assist, in the win at West Ham. Could notch his second of the season against Manchester United on Sunday.

Jermain Defoe (Sunderland)- Already has two league goals this season, and has an impressive record of seven in his last nine away outings. Has the potential to notch away to Tottenham this weekend.

Who's Not

Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)- Yet to score this campaign and, away to former club Chelsea, may fail to find the back of the net again. Steer clear at the £10m asking price.

Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)- Got an assist last weekend against Southampton, but yet to get up to speed this season. Could start against Hull, but a gamble at £9m.
