In an interview with the Neue Osnabrucker Zeitung, Holger Elixmann, President of VfL Osnabruck, provided an update on the findings of the Duisburg police inquiry into the cancellation of the third division game between MSV Duisburg and VfL on December 19th.

"We stand by our player Aaron Opoku. Our team deliberately left the pitch and later decided not to continue playing." It was clear to see how affected Aaron was by the monkey testimony.” he said.

Elixmann describes the fact that a Duisburg lawyer has filed a complaint against VfL player Florian Kleinhansl and linesman Fabian Schneider as "outrageous". Elixmann: “A perpetrator-victim reversal is attempted here. The lawyer is staging himself, but is doing the fight against racism, which should be a consensus among all citizens of this country, a disservice.”

MSV Duisburg will play VfL Osnabruck in the Schauinslandreisen-Arena in Duisburg on Wednesday evening, February 2nd.

Aaron Opoku joined loan from Hamburger SV and has played 18 games in the Bundesliga third tier.
