Preview: Quarter finals of NC Tier II Competition

The quarter finals of the Tier II of the NC Special Competitions will come off on Sunday at the various venues as eight clubs battle it out.

It promises to be interesting as Division One clubs look to cause another upset in this stage.

The biggest fixture on Sunday will be at Obuasi, where Ashanti Gold welcome their Premier League rivals Medeama SC at the Len Clay Park.

The Miners have been in superb form since their lost against Sunday opponents in the Tier I League. They have since gone five games without a defeat.

Medeama on the other hand rode on luck to overcome Sarmatex in the round of 16.

The last time they met at the same venue, AshGold won by 1-0 over Medeama.

But the visitors came out top in their last meeting in a competitive fixture.

At Kpando, in-form Hearts of Lions will be looking to make it 18 games without defeat when they host fellow Division One side Nzema Kotoko at the Kpando Park.

The home side are in a scintillating form in the competition.

They are the only side yet to taste a defeat in the competition winning 13 and drawing 4 with an impressive 16 clean sheets.

They have to beat Nzema Kotoko to secure their place in the last four.

Nzema Kotoko will, however, not be pushovers for the home side after their record breaking win against Karela United in the round of 32 and a comfortable win against Visions FC in the round 16.

They will fancy their chances against the Division One side.

In Kumasi, Asante Kotoko face Berekum Arsenal at the Baba Yara stadium.

A lot has already been said about the visitors boycotting the fixture after complaining of increments in the gate proceeds.

Everything is set and the game will come on as expected.

The Porcupines’ search for domestic double means they must beat the Brong Ahafo club to stand a chance of winning the Tier II League.

Despite qualifying to the last eight, C K Akonnor’s side haven’t been convincing in the competition.

A 4-1 victory against Real Tamale United and a lucky 2-1 victory against a Divisions One club Nkoranza Warriors sent the them to the last eight.

They will have to lift up their performance in order to eliminate their opponents.

Berekum Arsenal will be looking to cause another shock when they visit Kotoko on Sunday.

Already, they eliminated Aduana Stars at their own back yard and also BA United.

The visitors will be reeling with confidence when they come up against the Porcupines on Sunday.

In the other fixture, in-form Proud United will host Unistar Academy.

A hard fought victory against Mighty Jet and a difficult win against Liberty Professionals away gave them the upper hand going into Sunday’s game.

But they will have to face another stern test against Unistar Academy.

The name of Unistar remains on the lips of many football enthusiast after shocking elimination of Hearts of Oak in the round of 16.

Another win against Pound United on Sunday will send them to the last four of the competition.
