PSG & Real Madrid Plotting Big Money Moves for Man City Star as Speculation Over Future Continues

Published on: 06 February 2017

Sergio Aguero's future at Manchester City is the subject of intense media speculation once again, despite the striker's and club's admission that he has no plans to leave.

Several media reports on Tuesday claimed that Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid had been alerted to Aguero's potential availability in the summer, with the former already running the rule over an £80m offer for him, according to the Times.

Aguero's starting berth is believed to have come under serious threat following the arrival of teen prodigy Gabriel Jesus in the January transfer window - the latter having displaced the 28-year-old from City's first choice XI in the past two matches - and the rumour mills have been sent into overdrive as a result.

However, the Daily Mail appears to contradict the Times' report by suggesting that PSG are unsure over whether to make a move for Aguero, despite director of football Patrick Kluivert holding talks with the club's board over prising him away from the Etihad, with Aguero's salary at City thought to be a difficult stumbling block to overcome.

Aguero has been dropped to the substitutes' bench for City's last two matches - the first time he has done so since August 2014 - after Jesus impressed manager Pep Guardiola in training, and the ex-Palmeiras star has rewarded his boss with three goals in his first two starts.

His explosive arrival in Manchester has paved the way for plenty of conjecture over Aguero's future, even though the Argentina international only recently extended his stay with the two-time Premier League champions until June 2020.

Sources within the City camp also told the Daily Express that the club's hierarchy had no plans to sell Aguero, and stated that the arrival of Jesus was merely meant to provide competition for City's third-highest all-time record scorer.

The source said: There is no vagueness about our position. We want Sergio to stay.

"Pep has repeatedly said he is an important player for us and if Sergio is saying it is down to the club, well the club really wants him to stay. No one here wants him to leave, and Pep has been explicit about that.

Aguero had appeared to suggest that he may need to re-evaluate his situation at City in the summer if first-team opportunities remain hard to come by, but insisted that his mind was still fully focussed on helping the Citizens finish as high in the league, as well as progress as far as possible in the Champions League, this term.

He said: "In three years my contract is up, that's why I say I'm happy at the club. In these last three months that are left I have to help the club.

"As I say the club will decide if I have a place here or not. I want to stay here, of course."

Aguero's representatives were seen dining out with Guardiola in December as discussions took place over his perceived role at the club, though it remains to be seen what exactly was discussed.

If PSG are unable to afford both Aguero's wage packet and City's potential asking price, La Liga giants Real could swoop for the former Atletico Madrid star instead - though his allegiance to Los Rojiblancos previously may scupper any move from Los Blancos.

PSG are also believed to be targeting Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, and may make an offer for the Chile striker if their attempts to sign Aguero are thwarted.
