Puel may rest Maguire

Published on: 21 September 2018

Claude Puel has indicated that he could rest Harry Maguire for Saturday's Premier League clash between Leicester City and Huddersfield Town.

Maguire, who has featured in 63 games since the start of last season, including seven with England at World Cup 2018, played poorly in last weekend's grim 4-2 loss at Bournemouth.

Wes Morgan is suspended after being sent off in the defeat to the Cherries, so Puel may opt to partner Jonny Evans with Caglar Soyuncu in the centre of the Foxes defence.

"Harry has played a lot of games, but I will analyse it," said the former Lyon, Nice and Southampton coach Puel.

"To participate in a competition like the World Cup is tough to come back with good focus and freshness and concentration, this is a common thing.

"If I rest him for this game and we lose, I know I will be criticised, but it is important to keep players fresh and we must have a good focus about this. Players need to have some protection."

Huddersfield have failed to win any of their five Premier League matches so far this season and are 2/5 to be relegated.

Puel is keen to return to winning ways against the Terriers, adding: "We need a good response for us but also for the fans. They came to watch us away from home and they deserve better results from us.

"I think (the Bournemouth defeat) is now behind us. It was frustrating but we want to have a good response in our next game."

Meanwhile, midfielder Matty James remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.

Leicester are 8/13 to beat David Wagner's team this weekend and 7/1 to win the match from behind.
