Rafa Benitez Tells Newcastle Players to Focus on EFL Cup Tie After Easing Past Ipswich

Rafael Benitez says his players can enjoy Newcastle United's most recent victory over Ipswich Town but wants focus to switch quickly to the upcoming EFL Cup tie against Preston North End.

An Ayoze Perez brace and a Matt Ritchie strike gave the Magpies their fifth win in a row as they retained top spot in the Championship table but Benitez is determined not to get carried away, knowing that a quarter-final spot in the cup is very much within touching distance.

We have to enjoy this today and maybe a little bit tomorrow. It will be tough because we know that Preston North End is doing well," the former Liverpool boss told the club's official website.

So we have to be sure that players continue competing and when they come in they do well.

It is really important to keep the confidence high. But the only way is by working hard (on the pitch) because the only way you will get more chances is if you work for it and play well.

You will get more chances to keep winning. We know that every game will be difficult and have to be sure that the next one will be very tough and we have to be ready.

Benitez was also pleased for goalscoring hero Perez:"It's important for him, he did well and worked hard. I didn't play him in the last game, but he did a good job. It's good for him but also good for the team because it means we can change players and they can perform.
