Raheem Sterling Believes Leroy Sane Can Kick on Following First Premier League Goal

Published on: 19 December 2016

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling believes teammate Leroy Sane can continue to develop after netting his first Premier League goal against Arsenal at the weekend.

Sane struggled with injuries at the beginning of the season, but Sergio Aguero's suspension and Ilkay Gundogan's absence gave the 20-year-old his chance against the Gunners on Sunday, and he took the opportunity inscoring his side's equaliser.

"For him, not starting at the beginning of the season does not help but he's getting back into it now and I'm really happy for him," Sterling told theDaily Mail.

"Hopefully he can now kick on. Before the game I said to him, "If I had a shot like you I'd be shooting every minute and no one would be able to take the ball off me".

"I said, 'If you get a chance, just shoot' and he got his goal so I'm really pleased for him."

Liverpool's win on Monday saw City slip back down to third, but City remain firmly in the title race, having moved above Arsenal over their past two games.

City play Monaco in the Champions League after they qualified as runners up to Barcelona in their group, and Sterling has said he is excited for what the rest of the season holds.

"I'm massively excited about this season and what we can achieve," Sterling continued.

"Of course we want the title, to do well in the Champions League. We have a good draw. It's always a tough game but we have a chance to go through."

Next up for City is trip to Hull City on Boxing Day.
