Real Madrid 5-0 Granada: Fab Five From Los Blancos Sends Them Six Points Clear at La Liga Summit

Published on: 06 January 2017

Real Madrid comfortably saw off visitors Granada in La Liga in the early Saturday kick off with a 5-0 victory at the Bernabeu.

Isco's early brace, alongside further notches from Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Casimero in the Spanish sunsealed the win for coach Zinedine Zidane's men way before the full time whistle, equalling Barcelona's record of 39 games unbeaten in all competitions too.

Los Blancos began the day top of the table and three points better off than their rivals Barcelona in second with a game in hand, and went on to double this margin to six with an impressive home win over lowly Granada.

Their opponents had been through a very different season up until now, laying one off bottom spot with just nine points from 16 games, and their position didn't change as they face the real threat of relegation this season.

In terms of team news, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the starting line up after being rested for the side's 3-0 thrashing of Sevilla in the Copa del Rey, and was commemorated with his four Ballon d'Or awards before kick off in a touching celebration by the club.

There was the surprise addition of midfielder Isco leading the line up front, while James Rodriguez dropped to the bench despitestarring in that mid-week victory.

However, a whole host of names were also missing from the match day squad through injury, such asGareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Mateo Kovacic and Lucas Vazquez.

For Granada, things wouldn't be any easier afterannouncingthat they would be losing seven first team players to the AFCON, as well assome through injury.

Plenty of early possession for the hosts set the stall up for a tough day at the office for the visitors, and it wasn't long before an early costly error in the 12th minutegot the ball rolling for Zidane's men.

The on-loan Barcelona wonder-kid Sergi Samper had a moment to forget as he was dispossessed in his own half as Karim Benzema calmly slid in Isco between the defenders for a cool finish under goalkeeperGuillermo Ochoa.

Less than 10 minutes later and Real struck again thanks to another error, this time for the keeper. Ochoa fumbled a relatively easy long-range shot from Luka Modric on the edge of the box for Benzema to tap home on the rebound, however replays showed he was about a yard offside.

Six minutes after that and the game was all but over, with Granada a complete shambles, especially at the back. Marcelo got around his opposite man all too easily down the flanks, and picked out Ronaldo with an inch perfect cross for the Portuguese international to head into the top corner.

The visiting side appeared to have thrown the towel into the ring by the fourth, which came just after the half-hour mark as Modric once again got down the flank with ease after intercepting an awful passbefore laying off a simple ball across goal for Isco to claim his second of the match.

With just 31 per cent possession and four goals out of sight, Granada welcomed the half time whistle at the Bernabeu, but the second half wouldn't be any easier, as James Rodriguez came on to replace Toni Kroos, with Isco dropping back into midfield.

And almost 15 minutes into the second period Real had their fifth of the match and 45th of the season, thanks to Casimero, who latched on to a James cross at the back post to get his first notch of the campaign.

Madrid continued to attack and create chances, but it really was a walk in the park in La Liga's early kick off, as Zidane's men played out the final quarter of an hour with ease to enhance the gap at the top between themselves and Barca.
