Real Madrid could make a summer approach for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after an update on number one target David De Gea,El Confidencialhave reported.

The Manchester United keeper is now considered unlikely to leave Old Trafford in the next transfer window.

It appears that Los Blancos have now turned their attention to Courtois, although it's unclear whether they have given up their pursuit of De Gea.

El Confidencial believe Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may be willing to negotiate, with a potential swap deal for Courtois and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. The Premier League leaders have reportedly had the Spanish striker on their radar, and attempted to sign him before he joined Juventus.

The news could come as a boost for United and Jose Mourinho, with De Gea having been a consistently topperformer in recent seasons.

Teammate Ander Herrera recently urged the goalkeeper to stay with the club and "become a legend".

"He has a good contract here and he is valued a lot by the fans," Herrera toldCadena Ser. "He is a calm person. He is not anxious or in a hurry to make a change.

"We are winning titles and that helps. I don't even consider the possibility that he could leave.I want him to stay for many years and not just because he is my friend, but because there are not many goalkeepers that earn you points like he does.

"If he continues here, he will become a club legend as Schmeichel and Van der Sar. I believe he can surpass them. I think he has that in his mind."
