Henry Asante Twum, Ghana Football Association's spokesman has stated that referee Selorm Yao Bless has been punished by the FA but they have decided not to publish sanctions against referees.

Mr. Twum explained that the Ghana FA took the decision in order to protect the general image of Ghanaian referees.

Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko petitioned the Ghana Football Association over some controversial decisions made by Yao Bless.

Fans of the Porcupine Warriors have complained about not hearing anything from the FA about their club's petition. Henry Asante Twum reacting to their concerns revealed the referee was punished.

“He was punished we didn’t publish we just didn’t want to make it public. For this season we have punished referees we put them on ice we don’t make it public. That is the decision the secretariat has taken. You can see that Yao Bless for a long time he wasn’t officiating," he told Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com

"There is a global effect as well so you think about the collective good about the product than just to appease the public. In the past when we punish a referee then we publish it you can sit and ask yourself how this affects the image of our referees globally or at the international front,"

"At FIFA they punish referee they put them on ice they don’t talk about the referee again. Same CAF unless there is a grievous error that is so huge and bad then they must come out and explain saying they are investigating. But if it is a minor error then you report it then they do look into it and see that the referee is wrong they just put the referee on ice without making any public statement. We also feel that should be the new way that is the decision the secretariat has taken,”
