Republic of Ireland boss O\'Neill sudden new Everton favourite

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill is the sudden new favourite for the Everton job.

The Mirror says O'Neill is now the bookies' favourite after Silva made it clear that he would not be quitting Watford, despite Everton's offer of a £10million compensation package.

O'Neill's odds tumbled on Friday after majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri issued a statement to a radio station claiming that he would be in a position to appoint a new manager from a three-man shortlist this week.

Moshiri bought a 49.9 percent stake in Everton in February 2016. It has become clear he is now making all the big decisions at Goodison.

Appointing O'Neill is unlikely to pacify fans, but caretaker boss David Unsworth's reign could end after today's game at Southampton if Moshiri delivers on his vow of an imminent appointment.
