REVEALED: Hearts of Oak bosses blocked Slavko Matic's decision to axe first-choice goalie Richard Attah

The leadership of Hearts of Oak blocked Slavko Matic's decision to put Richard Attah on a transfer.

Following the appointment of the Serbian trainer, some senior players including the skipper for the side, Fatawu Mohammed, and his assistant, Alhassan Mohammed among other players have left the club as free agents.

Alhassan joined rivals Asante Kotoko while Fatawu is said to have moved to Egyptian second-division side Bani Sweef.

However, the bosses of the club had to block the decision of the trainer from axing their first-choice goalie, Richard Attah.

A source who spoke to Graphic Sports in an interview revealed that even though the management did not want to interfere in the job of the coach, they shouldn’t have allowed the Serbian gaffer to axe Alhassan from the team.

The source indicates that but for the intervention of the board, the coach would have axed goalkeeper Richard Atta too, stating that how could a coach just come in and clear some of their top players, including the goalkeeper, who had been their number one throughout the previous season.

''But for our intervention, the coach would have sacked Richard Atta too. A goalkeeper who has been our number one for all these years then you say he should go because you don’t like him'', the source noted.

Attah has been axed to the bench and has seen fewer minutes under Matic,

Slavko Matic, who replaced Samuel Boadu is however expected to be sacked by the hierarchy of the club over poor run of results. He has not been in the dugout after the Phobians suffered a 1-0 defeat against Great Olympics.

He was prevented from holding training session with the playing body ahead of the Super Clash against Asante Kotoko, a game Hearts of Oak won by a lone goal under the leadership of assistant coach, David Ocloo.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak now sit on the 4th position on the league log with 32 points following their 1-1 drawn game against Bibiani Gold Stars.

The Rainbow Club will host Kotoku Royals in the matchday 22 games at the Accra Sports Stadium this weekend.
