REVEALED: The Stirring Motivational Speech Aston Villa Owner Tony Xia Gave Players Before Victory

Published on: 13 August 2016

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia is a supremely successful businessman, but perhaps he should consider a career in coaching - or at least motivational speaking - after he revealed details of the emotional speech he delivered to players and staff before the club's victory over Rotherham United on Saturday.

Xia addressed the first-team and manager Roberto Di Matteo before Championship clash on Saturday, saying that he was determined to succeed in life despite not performing well in school.

The Chinese businessman urged the players to act like leaders out on the pitch and reminded them of his mantra, which is built on five key aspects:hard work, self discipline, team spirit, focus and the ability to learn from both failure and success.

I wanted to inspire the players and give them some of my advice, based on the many things I have learned," Xia told the Aston Villa website.

I was also keen to give them factors that I think you need in order to be successful in all walks of life, not just football.

I was very pleased they reacted well to this talk “ their performance was excellent and I believe the team will only get better.

One of the best videos I've ever seen! @Dr_TonyXia your a legend #AVFC https://t.co/5VCXVTTVy8

The fans were amazing. Their reception for me “ and getting a win on my first home game as chairman - gave me a wonderful feeling. Their support of the team was incredible.

I would say to them ˜if we keep going like this with players and fans together, we can achieve anything'.
